  • THE AURORA MISSION

Creating opportunity and success for all our pupils

    Founding CEo - Tim Mccarthy

Aurora Academies Trust was very sad to learn of the death of its founding Chief Executive Officer, Tim McCarthy in July.

Tim was CEO from the inception of Aurora in 2012 until January 2022 when he took semi-retirement. He loved his “missionary work down South” (as he called it) and had many good friends and colleagues at Aurora. Martha Burnige, Chair of Trustees of Aurora, was delighted to host Tim when he returned to Sussex in November 2024 to visit The Gatwick School. Before joining Aurora, Tim worked overseas and had connections in the US, Dubai and India.

Many tributes have been paid to Tim including on the BBC news website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c754g4y1vv6o

Tim is remembered fondly by colleagues at Aurora and we are grateful for the many years of service he gave to our Trust.
